Momentum-View-B

The MomentumView-B GUI is a sophisticated, cross-platform RAID management interface that can be run
locally on any platform that supports Java 2.0 or remotely over a LAN/WAN on a Java Applet opened by a web
browser. MomentumView-B comes with a diverse range of features in an easy to use online environment.
Compatible with MPAK's entire line of products, MomentumView-B software provides a user-friendly graphical
interface for configuring and monitoring RAID systems. The software’s graphical presentation makes array configuration
convenient by allowing monitoring of the entire array "At-a-Glance."

Technical Specifications

  • Multiple RAID Monitoring: monitoring and managing almost unlimited
    number of arrays.
  • Supports all standard RAID configurations: monitor and configure
logical drive/logical volume, parity configuration, controller selfdiagnosis,
host-side and drive-side SCSI parameters, controller
optimization modes, LUN Filtering settings, system functions, etc.
  • Browser Applet support for remote connection or Java application
for local management; Runs locally on platforms that support Java
1.4 or remotely over a LAN/WAN on a Java Applet opened by a
    browser
  • Client side management on any platform compatible with Java 1.4
    or higher
  • Graphical-oriented configuration options
Scan in new physical drives and online RAID expansion
  • Statistics window dedicated to cache hits and sustained read/write
    performance
  • Standard TCP/IP connections to Internet agents
SNMP traps issuance in response to events posted by the controller
  • Supports SAF-TE, S.E.S., Fault-Bus plus, MSEMS (MPAK Simple
Enclosure Management Service) for failure reporting of drive, fan, temperature,
    and power supply condition monitoring
  • Controller events managed by a background daemon program. The
program runs independently from the MomentumView-B management
    application
  • Event Notification to any location via e-mail, LAN broadcast, or SNMP
    traps
  • Event history record containing event severity, description of event and
    time of occurrence
  • "At a Glance" management of the entire array in separated RAID view,
    Enclosure view and Statistic View
  • Disk drives enclosure-oriented view for easy identification and display
    of failed drive location

Features and Benefits

REMOTE MANAGEMENT
MomentumView-B supports remote array management over a LAN
or the Internet using hybrid TCP/IP agents. The RAID controller
installed in a host with the hybrid agent will accept requests from a
remote station running MomentumView-B. Responses from the
RAID controller are forwarded to the manager via the same path.
The manager can also connect remotely using any standard web
browser via the internet, providing "install once, run anywhere"
convenience. With Internet support, an operation center in Seattle
can manage company RAIDs in San Francisco, Hong Kong, and
London, all from a single desktop.

PANEL VIEW
The MomentumView-B Panel View is a specialized customization
that shows a direct representation of an MPAK Momentum subsystem
or an Momentum controller head in the content panel of the
MomentumView-B screen. The image is an accurate representation
of the physical device and status messages of all the active components
and LEDs appear when a mouse cursor is dragged over the
respective component. Failed components are easily seen as the
corresponding device usually appears with a red background,
which indicates a failed or missing component.

ENCLOSURE MANAGEMENT
MomentumView-B can be used to create customized graphical representations
of actual enclosures. These views can be made to
reflect a variety of configurations and after defining an enclosure
graphically, drive icons can be placed into bays that correspond to
their physical locations. Drive status can then be monitored in an
enclosure-relative context. If a drive fails, a failed drive image will
appear at the location that corresponds to the location of the failed
physical drives. This function reduces the possibility of unplugging
the wrong drive during a drive failure.

NOTIFICATION PROCESSING CENTER (NPC)
MomentumView-B supports a variety of notification options when an
event occurs. Events are classified into three severity levels: notifications,
warnings, and alerts. Several notification methods are available:
e-mail, LAN broadcast, and SNMP traps.
The notification program is associated with the primary agent module
of the software and can be launched automatically on boot-up, allowing
for hands-free operation. The notification utility itself can also be
installed redundantly on two different computers to guarantee users
will be notified of events under any circumstances.

EVENT MONITOR
This sub-module runs independently from other Momentum modules as
a window onto the array status. Users can switch between the views of
different arrays by single mouse click. It stores a record of up to 1,000
events containing event severity, event description and the time of
occurrence.
